ALP'14——實習篇之設計外殼與最後成品

During this one meeting, the teacher told us that we had to design a cover for the quadcopter because the wires and electronics were just not presentable. "It is okay to not use the cover when you are flying but please make sure that the cover is on during the exhibition .." Our group was totally fine without the cover but since the big boss wanted it we had to do it.

The experience was not entirely pleasant though because firstly we couldn't really come out with a nice idea. Secondly, the rare few ideas that we came out with were cruelly rejected by the teacher and other mentors, who also couldn't really provide us with really awesome suggestions. And thirdly, the one that we asked to model was so much similar to my original design (which was rejected)!

The one that we were asked to model. Similar to my Shell 2 in terms of the curvature. And it is a closed cover instead of being made up by pieces.
We eventually came out with more designs and two were adopted:

Changes made to the shell design above this picture. One of the design that we eventually adopted.

Changes made from the original design. Adopted.

So after deciding on these two designs and colours, we sent the design for 3D printing. Oh we had to paint them ourselves.

Painted. People said it looks like Darth Vader helmet.

Below are some rendered photos and real life photos:

Was slightly angst while designing the covers but am happy with the final products!
